What to Know Before You Buy
A lacrosse stick has three parts: the head (the plastic frame with mesh), the shaft (the handle), and the pocket (the strung mesh). Complete sticks come with all three assembled. Separate shaft + head combos cost more but let you customize each component.
For beginners, a complete stick is almost always the right call. For experienced players, mixing and matching components gives you better performance for your specific position and playing style.
Quick rule: If you’re buying for a player under 14 or someone who’s never played, start with a complete stick. If they’ve been playing 1+ years and want to improve, a separate shaft and head is worth the investment.
